Words and translations

Words fascinate me. They hold great power. I truly believe that the words people choose tell where they are in life. Words like "try" and "need" and "want" mean they haven’t accepted the change they desire. The belief in words' meanings gives us our perception of their effect. Words like "Sin" and"Satan" conjure terrible images in the mind. These words hold us in places of guilt and failure confronted by an evil opponent. Sounds terrible doesn’t it?

If you look back at the original translations from the ancient texts an interesting thing arises. The Ancient Hebrew word for "Sin" literally translates into "Guilt" while the Ancient Aramaic word for "Sin" translates to "failure". The Ancient Greek word that has been translated into "Satan" only means "the opposition". The interesting thing to me is each of these words is a perception.

"Satan" stops being a evil villain and starts being someone of opposite views. "Sin" stops being a horrid action that we should be condemned for, but instead a perceived failure with guilt over failing. What was this horrible failure? The only thing we can judge ourselves so harshly over is not being loving. Now, we have to realize that these perceptions are concepts on a past timeline. It is in this moment we get to choose to do the loving thing. It is this moment we create our future. Walk away from guilt and failure. Make amends if need be (sometimes that is the loving thing to do). Don’t let fear (the opposition of Love) hold you in place.
